Why Do French Bulldog Puppies Whine?

French Bulldogs are incredibly sensitive, so they can become anxious when a big event happens. That could be a sudden thunderstorm, fireworks popping in the summer, or even just the idea of going out for a walk without them.

When they feel stressed, they’ll often whine or even cry. They’ll do this to communicate a need for food, water, or attention.

Whining

French Bulldogs are one of the most popular dog breeds in the world. Their mellow demeanor and sociability make them a beloved companion for both dogs and their owners.

They love to be with their human family, but they’re also incredibly active animals. They may get bored and cry if they’re not getting enough exercise or if they’re left alone for long periods of time.

Whining is a common behavior among many canines, and it’s not uncommon for Frenchies to whimper when they’re sad, lonely, or stressed out. They might even whine after they’ve been scolded or if they feel abandoned.

Like yawning, whining is a way that dogs attempt to relieve stress or anxiety. It can be accompanied by excessive panting, which could indicate that your French Bulldog is feeling hot or cold.

It’s a normal part of your dog’s routine, but it can be irritating when it occurs often. To reduce this, check your Frenchie’s health and check the environment for anything that might be causing them distress.

If your Frenchie is whimpering a lot, take them to the vet so they can be sure they’re healthy and there aren’t any physical issues. Be sure to look for signs of any behavioral problems that might be triggering the whining as well.

Some owners report that their Frenchies have trouble sleeping and will cry in their crate at night. This is normal for puppies, but it’s best to make their crate a positive experience by filling it with things they love and leaving them an appealing treat.

Other possible causes of whining include blocked tear ducts, eye allergies, and other health conditions. A blockage can cause water to pool in your dog’s eyes, which can look like tears.

Tears in Frenchies can also indicate that they’re having an allergic reaction to something, which can be a very uncomfortable and scary thing for your dog. Understanding what your Frenchie is allergic to can help you prevent a flare-up from happening in the first place.

Frenchies are renowned for their whimpering, but they’re also known for their adorable, charming personality. They’re a joy to have in your life, and they deserve the best you can give them.

Gagging

If your French Bulldog puppy is gagging it can be a sign of something more serious than just the usual dog cough. If your pup is gagging and coughing at the same time, you need to have them seen by the vets as soon as possible.

Gagging can be a sign of a number of different diseases that may need to be treated by your vets. Most of the time it is a fairly easy thing to treat as there are a variety of things that can be done to cure it or make it much less severe.

Firstly you should look at your pups eating habits and what they are eating on a regular basis. If you are serving your dog foods that they are allergic to or sensitive to, then this could be the reason why they are gagging and vomiting.

Another cause of gagging is a condition known as oesophageal stricture where the esophagus becomes narrow and food cannot enter the stomach properly. This is often hereditary and will need to be sorted out by your vet.

Your bulldog may also be suffering from a food allergy, which will need to be diagnosed by the vets. This can be very frustrating for you as you will have to change their diet to make sure they do not become ill.

Finally, if your Frenchie is gagging when they are vomiting then this can be an indication of a problem with the trachea. The trachea is held open by c-shaped cartilage rings and if these get weak or soft then your dog may find it difficult to breathe properly.

In some cases it is quite common for your Frenchie to gag when they are trying to swallow, however this can be a normal thing for them to do. This is usually only a problem when there is something stuck in their mouth, throat or a foreign object that has been ingested which can be very irritating for them and causes them to gag and spit.

Your vet will need to carry out a thorough examination of your dog to see if they are gagging because of the presence of a foreign object in their mouth. If the gagging is caused by the presence of a foreign object then it will be relatively straightforward to remove the object.

Wailing

The wailing sounds of French Bulldog puppies can be frustrating to pet parents, but they are normal. Most Frenchies whine to express their distress or feelings of loneliness. However, if you notice that your dog is whining in a way that doesn’t sound like a cry for help, it might be a sign of something more serious.

French Bulldog puppies cry a lot during the first four weeks of their lives, and it’s often because they are feeling overwhelmed by their new surroundings. They are also learning to crate train and aren’t used to being confined to their crates.

This is also why it’s important to give them plenty of opportunities to play and exercise in their crate, as well as to keep the crate clean. You can also try a no-pull harness, which can be especially helpful for crate training.

Another reason French Bulldog puppies might whine is because they are hungry or thirsty. This is particularly true for young pups, so make sure they have access to a bowl of water and food at all times.

If you’re trying to potty train your pup, it’s important to keep them away from areas where they might accidentally flush their bladder. This can cause them to cry when they need to go, and it can lead to accidents.

You should also avoid leaving your puppy alone in their crate for too long or leaving them in the crate too long while they’re sleeping. This can also cause them to develop abdominal hernias, which can be a serious health problem.

The gagging sounds that your dog might make can be normal for these brachycephalic breeds, but excessive gagging should be checked out by a veterinarian. Excessive gagging might be due to overexertion or because they’re suffering from a painful injury.

In the end, if your Frenchie is whimpering because they’re feeling stressed or lonely, you should let them know that they are loved and safe. This will help them relax and stop crying in their crate.

If you notice that your Frenchie is constantly whining in their crate, consider getting them a second companion dog or finding a dog sitter to come over for a few hours while you’re out of town. You might be surprised at the difference this can make for your dog and how much less he will cry in his crate!

Boredom

Dogs can get bored just like humans, and it’s important to keep them engaged in their daily lives. Whether it’s training, games, exercise, or brain games, these can help them keep their minds and bodies active.

A dog who is tired, bored or anxious will often whine as a way to get attention from their owners. It can be difficult to know if your puppy is simply tired or has a health problem, so it’s best to visit the vet if the whining persists for longer than a few days.

In some cases, boredom can be a sign of an underlying health issue such as a bladder or digestive problem, says Jessica Coodin, DVM, a veterinarian at VCA Animal Hospitals in Atlanta. But there are also other causes of boredom, such as the absence of exercise or play, according to Coodin.

Fortunately, you can help prevent your French Bulldog from becoming bored with the right kinds of toys and activities. Some of the most popular boredom busters include puzzle toys that hold treats and require a bit of work from your dog to release them.

If your pup is a high-energy dog, you may want to try a game of fetch or tug-of-war. This will provide both physical and mental stimulation, plus it’s a fun way to bond with your dog.

Toys that contain treats or chewable objects, such as rawhide or dental chews, are a great option for dogs of all ages. They also offer a great outlet for teething puppies.

DIY puzzle toys are also a great boredom buster and can keep your dog mentally engaged for hours at a time. There are even toys that are designed to hide treats, such as Omega Paw’s Tricky Treat Ball and PetSafe’s Bristle Bone.

Nose work is another activity that can engage your dog’s senses and keep them occupied. You can teach your dog to sniff out a hidden stuffed Kong or dry dog biscuit and reward them when they find it.

If your French Bulldog is acting out or exhibiting other behavioral problems, talk with a veterinarian, trainer, or behaviorist to determine the cause and get ideas for managing the situation. You can also make a plan for regular walks, training, and interactive activities that will ensure your dog doesn’t become bored and anxious.
